Yamba women’s bowls get back to normal

Tuesday July 7

Into our third week back and now an earlier start – gradually getting back to our regular routine but still taking no chances, 19 ladies fronting up today on a cool breezy morning.

Winners for the day were the singles rink – J. Coulter, V. Beddow and J. Pearson. Other rinks were R. Dickson, C. Ritale d G. Davis, J Campbell; L. Duncan, C. Cole d S. Lindsay, K. Mason; M. Durante, M. Stone d P. Conley, J. Scadden and R. Fletcher; W. Ballantyne d B. Shatte, M. Abbott.

And on Thursday July 9 – a blast from the past – we resumed the Queen of the Green competition.

Reigning Queen Wendy held onto her crown (literally) after defeating the tenacious contender Sue Lindsay in a see-sawing game with Sue taking an early lead and keeping it for 15 ends. But Queen Wendy niggled her way back into the equation and, despite Sue’s best efforts – jumped ahead at this point to run away with a 25-17 win. President Bev was the marker for the occasion. And just to sweeten her victory Wendy and Bev shared the winner’s prize for the day.

We had two singles games today which resulted in Lois Duncan on 27 shots over Lorraine Asbury with 16 and Pam Conley – 13.  In the other singles game Carol Ritale took the line honours with 21 shots over Joan Scadden’s 16 and Julie Coulter’s 12.

In the pairs games J. Doherty (v), J. Pryor d M. McBey, C. Cole with a close two shot win; J. Pearson, M. Stone d V. Terry, M.  Abbott.

District Singles are on next week – our ever-efficient match committee has provided everyone one with instructions as to their duties.

Don’t forget club nomination forms are available. We need enthusiastic Club people to step up and take us into 2021. Come on – grab a nomination form and be a part of running your Club.
