Wednesday washout for Yamba ladies golf

Unfortunately, wet weather last Wednesday caused the postponement of our monthly medal day. Four golf ‘tragics’ decided to brave the elements in wet, windy and cold conditions but finally saw sense and called it a day after completing the front nine. The monthly medal has been rescheduled and will now be played in conjunction with the GNSW round on Wednesday July 29.

Friday’s conditions were much kinder for the 41 ladies who played in the Single Par 4/6 event. Our standout players, Jo Simmons and Noni Rixon, who play in Div 3 lodged excellent scores of +5 and +4 respectively. Helen Collins was the Div 1 winner (square c/b) just ahead of Di Sigle (square c/b). In Div 2, Lyn Rowland was the winner with -1 c/b. Jo King continued her consistent form and was r/up, also with -1. Jo Simmons won Div 3 one shot ahead of Noni Rixon and scored the best scores of the day.

Wednesday was the welcomed return of the NTP prizes which have been generously sponsored by Flots and Jets, Valley Finance, Peter Campbell Physio, Kitchen to Table, Melt Massage and Beauty, Yamba Ladies Golf and Yamba Pharmacy.

Gail Gore-Brown (3rd), Jo Simmons (2nd shot on 3rd), Jennifer Fagan (2nd shot on 9th), Helen Collins (10th), Sonya McLennan (12th), Lyn Rowland (17th) and Jen O’Neill (2nd shot on 17th) were our winners.

Balls were awarded to -2.

Eight ladies played in perfect conditions on Saturday morning. Tana Lowe played some awesome golf to win with 35pts and Margaret Fishburn continued her steady form to be awarded runner-up with 34pts.

The draw sheet for the upcoming Ladies’ Championships can be found in the ladies’ locker room along with a non-championship sheet for those ladies who are not able to play all four rounds.

Also available to our ladies is the upcoming MI Organics Yamba Pro-am event to be held on August 8-9. This event has attracted a class field of European tour ranked players as well as 2021 British Open-bound Aaron Pike and Jordan Zunic who has won the NZ Open. Yamba favourite, Mackenzie Wright, will be returning to Yamba to make his professional debut after gaining PGA Professional status. Entry forms are available online for anyone who wishes to play alongside some great talent over the two days.

This week’s events include Wednesday’s 3-Person Ambrose and Friday’s Single Stableford format.
