Richie Carter wins Yamba Club Championship

The final round of the annual championships was held at Yamba Golf & Country Club on Saturday in fairly benign conditions.

Richie Carter commenced the day with a commanding lead and was never threated. His score of 311 for the four rounds gave him a convincing win. Runner up was Jolon Homewood on 324.

In B Grade, Darryl Hagarty was victorious with 350 from Tommy James 357.

In C Grade, Jeff Boylan was the winner with 293 with Alan Nicholas the runner up on 299.

In the nett event, A Grade winner was Andre Rizk 283 followed by Craig Penman 292; B Grade Brad Roberts, runner up John Ashby 291 and C Grade David Groth 222, Bill Williams 223.

 

Saturday Stroke event to David Grant

163 golfers competed in the Stroke event on Saturday and David Grant made a mockery of his handicap when he returned a nett 63 to win C Grade. Lindsay McDonald had a great round of nett 67 to finish second followed by Keith James with 71 on a countback.

70 was a popular score in A Grade when all three place getters returned it. The countback saw Geoff Flett win from Andre Rizk and Andrew Smart.

The good scores continued in B Grade when John Ashby won with nett 64 from Laurie Urquhart 66 and Graham Kulmar 69.

Nearest to the Pins were sponsored by SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist and Bean Scene Café. Neil Garrad was closest on the 3rd with 20cm. 9th Kerry Henwood 75cm, 10th Luke Hobday 48cm, 12th Nathan Andrews 24cm and 17th Ken Dewar 399cm. The rundown went to 74 with 33 nett on the back nine.

 

Dylan Spagnolo takes out midweek golf

173 golfers greeted the starter on Thursday to compete in the midweek Stableford event. Best round of the day was recorded by Dylan Spagnolo with a great 43 points which won him the A Grade voucher. Richard Beresford was runner up with 41 points and Simon Birchall third with 40.

In B Grade Big John Maguire was the winner with 41 points from Guy Carpenter (39) and Pip Dixon (38).

A countback was necessary in C Grade when all three place getters scored 39 points. It resulted in Peter White winning from Ken Lillie and Bruce Petith.

NTP winners: 3rd Keith Cromack 20cm, 9th Tim Stokes 171cm, 10th Dale McGuffie 106cm, 12th Tommy James 119cm and 17th Tony Moran 50cm. Grants farewell day

70 golfers played an Irish Stableford on Sunday in an event organised by Julie and David Grant who unfortunately for us, are leaving the area. It was a great day which was enjoyed greatly by everyone who took part. Winners were Fay & Rob Gimenez, Dylan Spagnolo & Sandra Brown. Runners up were Jeannie & Greg Doolan and Sandra Wallace and Warren Hughes.
