Women – Get ready for natural disasters

Rodney Stevens

Women from the Lower Clarence are invited to an innovative practical workshop being facilitated by the Maclean SES designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills to prepare for natural disasters.

As the lead agency in NSW for floods, storms, and tsunamis, the Maclean SES and other emergency services are hosting the workshop to be delivered by EPiC, which aims to provide local women with opportunities to practice skills in a safe environment with trained volunteers.

Emergency Preparedness in Community EPiC is a practical, skill-based workshop designed to provide women with a diverse range of skills to help them prepare their home and family for the impacts of natural hazards.

The workshop will assist local women in developing their confidence to work on ladders, clean gutters, with sand bagging to protect a doorway or divert water, the tarping of a roof, downloading and using emergency apps and understanding warnings, reading and understanding the Bureau of Meteorology website and app, and developing your home emergency plan and kit.

Local women are invited to participate in any or all of the activities and encouraged to bring a friend.

The Maclean SES Unit at 74 River Street is hosting the workshop which will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 10am.

The workshop will be catered for, but spaces are limited, so you must register before April 27, to secure your spot.
