Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic traffic changes

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on the Gwydir Highway between Grafton and Glen Innes this weekend for the Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic.

The men’s race starts on Saturday April 27 at 7:15am from Prince Street, Grafton, and women’s race starts at 8:15am from Mount Mitchell (Gwydir Highway).

Both events finish on Vivian Street at Inverell, where the last riders are expected by 5pm.

For the safety of race participants and motorists, rolling road closures will be in place along the route from 6.30am to 5pm.

Motorists travelling between Grafton and Glen Innes are advised to delay their trips until the highway reopens, while motorists travelling between Glen Innes and Inverell are advised to allow extra travel time and exercise caution.

The Gwydir Highway between Tindal Road and Bald Nob Road will be closed to all westbound vehicles (Grafton to Glen Innes) from 7am to 1:30pm.

The Gwydir Highway at Bald Nob Road, Bald Nob (Glen Innes to Grafton) will also be closed to eastbound vehicles from 5am to 1:30pm.

The event will be travelling on the Gwydir Highway between Glen Innes and Dodds Lane (20km east of Inverell) between 9.30am and 4pm.

Elsmore Road at Inverell will be under traffic control for the event and motorists travelling in the area should allow extra travel time.

Local traffic will have limited access to Elsmore Road during this period.

Variable speed reductions will also be in place along the Gwydir Highway during the event and motorists should be aware of speed reduction signs and traffic controllers on site.
