Happy Paws Haven

At Happy Paws, we are getting inundated with surrenders, this is mainly due to the number of people becoming homeless as rent has increased significantly particularly here in the Clarence Valley and Coffs Harbour Regions. We have a list of animals waiting to come into Happy Paws, we can’t take them all. We are still staying within our own guidelines of no more than 60 cats and kittens, we are at 54 and no more than 55 dogs and we are at 54 including my own dogs. We are determined that we will continue to operate in balance space, resources, volunteer time etc.

We desperately need help with the animals especially the dogs. We also urgently need of some handy people as well to help us renovate the dog cabins and cattery, this is really urgent. Cuddling and playing with the animals is compulsory! There are all sorts of things that need to be done…And every bit of help counts! Come and visit to see what we do!  Come and help us with the animals and/or fundraising for their care!

We need to find someone to represent the volunteers, assist in their skill training and help us to recruit volunteers with the skills we need. Please spread the word as we really do need your help. Again we need help, any contribution large and small, everything counts. People can contribute either by volunteering their time or donating towards these projects through PayPal using our email address happypawshaven@bigpond.com or via our bank, the Bendigo Community Bank in South Grafton BSB 633000, Account 130786031 and our account name is Happy Paws Haven Inc. Rescues and surrenders

We are trying to limit the number of animals being rescued as you know. Our restrictions are not only financial but also due to vet availability. We are restricting our capacity to keep our numbers down due to Covid19 and the impact on our donations. Our numbers in care are being carefully maintained. We have closed the doors as we are full. We are only taking animals in crisis.

Cats and kittens for adoption this week

We get all cats vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. We have adopted out well over 1200 cats over the last 12 years and only a very very small percentage having developed any illness as a result of the change in environment but now we are being extremely careful. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. Our rehoming number is R251000043.

Looking for gentle loving cat? Angelo came to us in a box with two tabby male, his black sister and his mum at the end of 2017. They had been dumped due to their owner becoming homeless we were told. They could not fend for themselves. They were covered in fleas bloated with worms and very dehydrated to point where we were not sure whether they would make it. Miraculously they all made it through with their mother’s loving help. They have grown up to be beautiful affectionate loving cats, we now only have Angelo left to find a wonderful loving home. 900079000382749

My name is Esme, I was dumped in a box with 10 other kittens and our mother outside a house near Myrtle Creek. She had lots of cats of her own and just could not afford to take on all of us as well so we went into foster care. We have now ground up into lovely affection young cats. I have had my operation and all my needles with the others from the kitten house and now we are ready to find a wonderful loving home. We are all loving friendly affectionate young teenage cats about 8mth old waiting for a loving home. My microchip: 900079000382726.

Bryce and his brother and sister were found by a lovely family who could not afford to keep them so they bought them into care. They have developed into lovely loving affectionate cats who are learning to live and play with other cats. They are normal, inquisitive, mischievous and playful young cats ready to became a part of a loving family. 991003000829350

Dogs and puppies for adoption this week

All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. All dogs are also tested to make sure that they do not have heart worm. Trixie is full of beans, very affectionate, can be in your face. She needs to be in a home with a family who will take her to training and with them when they go places. She just loves people and loves to be with them. She is happy to just be with you so could be trained as a companion dog. She is a smart young lady so would benefit from participating in some scent work, tracking or similar as she just wants to please. She gets on well with most dogs especially near her own age. 934000090249693

Ingrid is one of Indigo’s litter of nine pups who came with their mother when they were about three weeks old. The owner did not have the time to care for them all as she worked full time as a nurse in aged care. Indigo was struggling to feed them all as well and was not getting enough nutritious food herself. the owner contacted Happy Paws for help as Indigo was fighting the pups for food. WE said we would take the pups with their mother and she could adopt her back after the pups were ready at 10-12 weeks and Indigo was desexed so that she did not go home and get pregnant again. All the pups survived and are in great condition. They are typical mischievous friendly playful naughty pups that will need training as all young children do. They are all desexed, fully immunised, chipped and treated regularly for worms fleas etc. 900215002925542

Poro came as a very reluctant surrender as his owner had to change his accommodation and could not find a new place where he could have is lovely dog with him. When he first arrived Poro was a little over whelmed and shy but now he happily runs and plays with us all. He gets on with all the dogs we have introduced him to so far and is a well-mannered gentle young man with lovely ears.
