Grafton ladies golf Skins Team Stableford

The 9-hole Stableford competition scheduled for Monday was cancelled due to the wet condition of the course.

Wednesday April 24

By Wednesday the course had dried out enough for play and 11 teams fronted up for an 8.30am shotgun start in the Skins Team Stableford, sponsored by Bendigo Bank, South Grafton. The ladies were keen to play well as there was money to be won on each hole.

Only 7 holes were won outright with the rest jackpotting, resulting in some great cash prizes for some of the teams.

Mary Atkins, Wendy Butcher, Ann Gibbons and Peg James won holes 1, 3 and 16. Chrissy Danvers, Cheryl Creighton, Shirley Goodger and Sue Petty won hole 8. Jen Townsend, Kaye Murdoch, Elaine Shand and Cheryl Shanley won holes 9 and 11. Judy Page, Gillian McLachlan, Glenda Chad and Sonya Baker won hole 12. Lisa Hunt, Jan Pilgrim, Sharyn O’Grady and Jane Wolfe won hole 17.

NTP’s: Sharyn O’Grady 1st, Glenda Chad 6th (doc), Kaye Murdoch 10th, Judy Page 2nd shot 10th, and Jane Wolfe 17th.

Birdies were scored by Brenda Cooper, Peg James, Kaye Murdoch and Royer Smith on the 14th, and Sharyn O’Grady on the 1st. Congratulations to Kaye Murdoch who scored an eagle on the 9th.

The raffle was donated by Sue Byrnes and was won by Jan Pilgrim.

Friday April 26
17 golfers played in the Stableford in good weather. Overall winner was Karen Napper (36 c/b), runner-up was Sue Petty (36) and third was Julie Bennett (35).
Sue Petty scored 2 birdies – one on the 4th and one on the 14th. Kaye Murdoch and Lisa Hunt scored birdies on 14th.
Balls went down to 29 and were won by Leanne Danvers, Lisa Hunt, Kerry Harding, and Margaret Manahan.
NTP was Julie Bennett on the 17th and Christine Stephenson on the 6th.

Saturday April 27
12 golfers enjoyed beautiful autumn weather and played a stroke round on Saturday. The April Monthly Medal which had been postponed from April 6 was also played. Kate Thomson (81 nett) was the medal winner, just ahead of Carol Toms (82 nett). Kate also won the putting competition. Jan Pilgrim was the overall winner with nett 78 c/b and Peg James was runner-up with 78. Donna Carter was the gross winner with 93.

Three birdies were scored – Peg James on the 4th, Jan Pilgrim on the 14th, and Carol Toms on the 15th. Lisa Hunt was NTP on the 1st.Mary Atkins (79 c/b) won a ball.

NEDGA Tournament
Eight Grafton golfers travelled to Armidale to compete in the NEDGA 85th Ladies Annual Open 3 Day Tournament. Conditions were difficult and the weather was very cold, but the ladies had some success. Jan Pilgrim won the Div 3 Stableford on the second day and was runner-up over 36 holes on the last day. Sharyn O’Grady and Jane Wolfe were runners-up in Div 1 Foursomes and Peg James won an NTP.
