Yamba women’s bowls

Tuesday July 16

You couldn’t get better conditions for the semi-final of the Club Fours and another round of Princess of the Green.

In the Fours – team Catherine Aitchison proved too good for team Judy Pryor after a close game – digging in at the last few ends to win by eight shots. And in the other rink of the semi-final – Ros Moore and her team of Julie Coulter, Margaret Durante and Judy Button overcame Chris Cole and her team with an easy win and gained a spot in the final to be played Tuesday July 30.

And the long-running ‘Princess of the Green’ Lois Duncan has relinquished her crown to a new Princess – Jan Stamp in a nail-bitingly close game with the final score Jan 25 – Lois 24. The game remained very close until the 19th and 20th ends when Jan picked up two 3’s in a row to stretch the score line to 22-14. Lois fought back with a 3 and a 4 to level the scores again. And then it was end for end till the last end – the 28th end – when Jan picked up a 2 to take the game. Marker was Noeline Smith. Jan also took out the winner’s prize for the day.

And the field of social bowls comprised two triples games and a pairs game.  In the triples G.L. Davis, A. Cook (v), J. Campbell d. F. Monk (v), M. Abbott, K. Mason; V. Pate, M. Wall, C. Ritale d. M. McBey, J. Shipway (v), V. Beddow and in the pairs game P. Schestedt (v) J. Hudson d D. Turnbull, M. Sakac.
