Yamba Westlawn 3-Day to Bonville’s Adele Douglas

After two years of cancellations due to rain and COVID, the annual Yamba Ladies Westlawn 3-Day Tournament was finally held last week and while numbers were down slightly compared to previous years, the event was hailed a great success by all who attended.

In addition to slogging it out on the course over the three days, over 140 players had many opportunities to catch up with old friends and new at the Monday night Fashion Parade and Tuesday night’s tournament dinner and dancing.

The winner of the 36-hole gross and coming away with the coveted trophy was the talented Bonville player, Adele Douglas (0.5), who scored 166. Playing consistent golf over the two days with gross scores of 81 and 85, she was always going to be hard to beat. Her closest rival was Coolangatta Tweed’s Pam Ford (11.3) who scored 173.

The best local players over 36 holes included Val Pate who won Div 1 nett (142). Val played excellent golf over the two days, scoring nett 70 and 72. Well done, Val.

Other winners who played consistently on both days were Carol MacPherson – Div 3 nett winner (153); Janelle Carpenter – Div 2 gross r/up (197) and Jenny Muir – Div 3 gross r/up (208).

Monday’s format was Foursomes and some of our local ladies featured in the winner’s circle. These were: Margaret Solomon/Di Sigle – Div 1 nett winners; Janette Blair and Sue Reguson (Cool/Tweed) – Div 1 gross r/up and Leigh Robertson/Molly Plunkett (Maclean) – Div 1 nett r/up. Terri Collingburn/Denise Ginn were the Div 2 nett winners.

Tuesday’s local winners included: Leigh Robertson – Div 1 nett winner; Janette Blair – Div 1 nett r/up, Jane Bonner – Div 2 nett r/up and Joy Williams – Div 4 Stableford 2nd place.

Many of our local ladies played well on Wednesday and featured in the winner’s list. Darrie Nightingale was Div 1 gross winner and Janine Zietsch the Div 1 nett r/up. In Div 2 results, Jill Brown won the gross, Margaret Solomon took out gross r/up and Julie Campbell was nett winner. In Div 3, Lynne White was the nett winner and Jenny Dewar was nett r/up. In the Grade 4 Stableford competition, our Yamba ladies scooped the pool and included: Lyn Bartley (winner); Sandra Russo (r/up) Lesley Love (2nd r/up) and Lynne Eke (3rd r/up).

The Yamba Ladies golf committee provided three days of golf, friendship and hospitality with support from our local business community, including our major sponsor, Westlawn, along with Clarence Property Group and minor sponsors, Elders Real Estate, Yamba Iluka Real Estate, Island Collective, Valley Finance, and Clarence Valley Mineral Pools. With over $1450 of locally donated giveaway vouchers and cash envelopes distributed over the three days, the players were treated to the generosity of our local business community. Thanks must go to the YGCC and Pro Shop staff, along with our lady members and club volunteers who helped to make the event such a success.

Plans are already under way to show off our beautiful course at next year’s tournament which will be held from October 9 to 11.
