Yamba Vets Golf

Despite a huge amount of rain during the last few weeks, it was a fine and sunny day for Yamba Vets extra golf day on Monday, March 28. It is a real credit to the course staff and the drainage improvements implemented over the last year or two that there little sign that the course had been closed and games cancelled the week before. Conditions were tough though with no run at all, something that is often needed as we get older. Men’s winner Harold Roberts came in with 35 points followed by Col Cromack on 34 on a countback. Quite a few men were around this mark as the ball rundown only went to 33. NTP winners were Phil Ramm (3rd), and Doug Luckie on 9th and 12th. The ladies weren’t far behind this week with winner Barbara Wood carding 31 points from runner-up Lynne MacFarlane on 30 points on a countback. NTP winners were Lorraine Bentley (2nd shot on 9th), showing some of her old brilliance after a very long break; Lee Daley (10th), Janine Zietsch (2nd shot on 17th, handicaps 0-21) and Lucy Thompson (2nd shot on 17th, h’caps 22-45). The ball rundown went to 29. The main raffle was won by Kevin Malloy with minor prizes going to Chris Woodland and David Barnsley. The next vets day will be a medley 2BBB Stableford on Monday April 11. Until then, good golfing. Lee Daley
