Yamba Veterans Golf Club played the second game of the year on Monday February 22, and although rain threatened early it cleared to be a beautiful day for golf. The competition was a 4BBB Stableford event and members enjoyed playing a different type of game. Another good field of fifty nine players took part including two visitors from Beacon Hill and two new members being welcomed by president John Smail. It was a closely contested competition and the winners John Kenny and Ken Lillie combined brilliantly to return 46 points. They narrowly defeated runners-up Alex Miltiadou and Erik Pedder closely followed by John and Lee Daley who came third with 44 points. Another nine pairs received golf balls in the rundown which went to 41 points, proving just how close the competition was. Men’s nearest to the pins were won by Greg Starr (3rd), Terry Crowe (9th) and Peter Sweetman (10th). The ladies’ winners were Barbara Wood (9th second shot), Lynne MacFarlane (10th) and Marie Lenard (17th second shot). The main raffle was won by Honey Tatton with other prizes to Terry Betts and Danny Quinn. The vets group is growing steadily and once again a very enjoyable day was had by all.
