Maclean Men’s Golf

Wednesdays 9 hole skins event saw a fine round of golf from Ted Harvey who took out 5 skins followed by Phil Dawson with 4 skins. A field of 17 contested this fun social game which hits off at 1.30 every Wednesday. Thursdays Single Stableford was run in very warm weather and the trophy went to John Porter with a hot round of 42 points. The r/up was Graeme Reti who carded 41 points. Only one NTP card could be found and that went to Mick Emmanuel on the 2nd. Pro balls went down to 35 points. Saturdays event was a Medley Stableford with excellent trophies donated by Shelley of Thistles Bistro. The winner was Michael McGowan with an excellent score of 41. Andrew Clarke was the r/up on 40 points. NTPs went to Mark Hemmy on the 2nd and the 7th, Brian Iveli the 11th and Don Grumley the 17th. Club balls went to 33 on a c/b. An extra prize for our ladies players of a magnum of bubbly was taken out by a very excited Chrissy Picton with 35 points. Don Grumley played an excellent shot onto the tough 17th green for the NTP and a beautiful birdie. Not bad for an OBE (over bloody eighty). Graeme Reti had a little trouble on the 9th hole. He skulled his 2nd shot which flew the green, bounced off the table beside the pro-shop, just missing resident Pro Paul King, leaving a hole in the wall of the clubhouse before rebounding back into play. Trick shot, Graeme! Wayne Hinchcliffe is set to return to play after a long absence due to a shoulder reconstruction and he informs me that he has been practising and is in top form, so lookout for Hinchy. Next week’s game is a Stroke event for the Monthly Medal and mug. Richard and Cathy Parker of Maclean Stays, who are great supporters of our club, are our sponsors and will once again be offering top trophies for the day. Our programme of events book for 2016 is available at the Club as are our annual membership renewals which are due by the end of March. Phil McGuire
