A wonderful field of 80 players faced fine but very windy conditions on Monday February 8 to begin the Yamba Veterans 2016 golfing year. Eighteen visitors from Maclean and two from Hervey Bay were included in the field and were made very welcome by new in-coming president John Smail and Captain Greg Starr. The conditions however did not hinder the winners and some good scores were returned. Men’s results were as follows: Winner – John Ralph 39 points, r/up – Des Hall 37 points and 3rd – Bob Harvey 36 points c/b. The ball rundown went to 33 on a c/b and NTP winners were Peter Sharpe (3rd) Ken Wood (10th) and Alex Podbereski (12th). The results were almost as good as the men for the leading ladies. The winner was Dianne Sweetman 38 point, r/up Tina Hogg 35 points and third Kathie Smail 33 points. The course proved more difficult for the rest of the field with the ball rundown going right down to 26. Pin winners were Pauline Ryan, Marlene Roberts and Dale Ramm. To end the day a sausage sizzle was enjoyed by all. New Veteran players are very welcome to join this group every second Monday as are any visitors in the area.
