The Shirley Goodger sponsored Saturday ladies Opening Day saw 20 ladies contest the 4BBB event last Saturday. Players hit the course and ensured a great morning of fun and frivolity was had by all. Some magic golf was produced with reports of many birdies and four pointers being recorded. The team of Elaine Shand and Lorraine McLaughlan were tickled pink with their morning’s golf, which included a great birdie by Elaine on the 18th. The sponsor, Shirley, and her partner Janeen put together a fantastic 28pts on the front 9, which had followed on from their back 9 score of 16pts, to come in with a score of 44pts. However, the winning score was returned by the combination of Chrissy Danvers and Julie White with a fabulous 46pts, following 21pts on the back 9 and 25pts on the front 9. Balls were awarded to the two teams of Marianne Mannell/Jen Townsend and Courtney Fuller/Anna Bidstrup. NTP on the 1st hole was taken out by Shirley. A delighted Carol Toms and Sonya Baker were thrilled with their lovely prizes for their 38 Stableford points. Last Wednesday saw 41 players enter our Stableford competition, with a good number having their first game of the year. The best score on the day (37) was recorded by Helen Packwood in Div 2. There were 6 players that returned the next best score of 35pts. Div 1 saw 4 players record 35pts with Mary Atkins taking the win, followed by Noeline Smith in 2nd place and Elaine Shand in 3rd place on a c/b from Club Champion Jen Townsend, who was the “unlucky” ball winner. Elaine, playing off a handicap of 12, produced another fine round of golf with two lovely birdies recorded, the first being with a great chip in on the difficult 15th hole. The 2nd birdie was produced following a magnificent tee shot on the 6th which almost saw her ball being swallowed into the cup for a hole in one. That shot also earnt Elaine the NTP. The NTP on the 10th was also taken out by Elaine, when her 2nd shot sat a mere 4 inches from the hole. Gillian McLachlan was the recipient of the other 2 NTPs with her nice shots on the 17th and 1st holes respectively. Ann Gibbons was the r/up in Div 2 on 35 on a c/b from Anna Bidstrup. The Div 3 prizes were awarded to Helen Irving on 33, Helen Hopwood on 31 and Lorraine McLaughlan placed 3rd on 29pts. We welcome new player, Heather Purtill, to our Wednesday competitions where she has been playing some nice golf over the past few weeks, demonstrating that her handicap will be spiraling down at a rapid rate. Wednesday next, February 24, will be an 18-hole Stroke event with our first monthly medal of the year. Our ladies are very grateful to our new sponsor for next Wednesday, Tania Clark of Allure Derma who has very generously come on board to support us throughout the year. Julie White
