All Yamba SLSC members are encouraged to attend a general club meeting this Sunday 15th November in the upstairs of the clubhouse starting at 2.30pm. Only 11 swimmers braved the bleak weather on Sunday for the Carl Schaeffer Handicap Swim. Kim Morgans, off 60 seconds, was first across the line, closely followed by Harry Fahey, off 160 seconds, with Jim Dougherty, off 140 seconds, third. This popular surf race is held every Sunday morning, with registrations at 11am, and the race staring at 11.30am. Sunday’s poor weather conditions forced many events to be cancelled at the branch nipper carnival at Cabarita on Sunday. Well done to the 19 competitors, who proudly represented Yamba SLSC in tough conditions. Congratulations to Jorden Elabbasi who won gold in the U14’s Male Surf Race and Board Race and silver in the Ironman. Carissa Miltiadou won gold in the U12 Female Beach Flags. The U11’s Beach Relay Team, Chenoa Kapeen, Alannah Griffin, Kalani Ives and Malik Elabbasi, just missed a medal placing 4th in the final. Kalani Ives won gold in the U11’s Female Beach Flags and Silver in the Beach Sprints, Alannah Griffin placed 4th in the U11’s Female Beach Flags and Alani Berry placed 5th in the U10’s Surf Race. This Saturday night is the Nippers sleepover at the Clubhouse for U8’s to U14’s. Names of those Nippers attending the sleepover must be given to Nipper Coordinator Dannielle Connolly by 7pm Friday evening. Nippers is on at Main Beach 8.30-10.30am this Sunday morning, U8’s parents are on set up, please be at the beach at 8am to assist. A Gold Medallion course is being held at Ballina on 21st November. First Aid courses are being run at Shelley Beach in Ballina on: 19/12; 20/2; 16/4. Closing dates are 2 weeks before course begins but you would be wise to enrol (through the Yamba office) ASAP.
