cvi   Yamba SLSC will be hosting the annual Yamba Ocean Swims Day at Main Beach on Monday 28th December. Online entries are now open on the oceanswims.com website and participants are encouraged to use this to enter. There will be a 700 metre swim commencing at 9.30am and a 2km swim at 10.30am with fees at $20 and $30 respectively. Online entries close on Sunday 27th December. Late entries will be taken on race day and will incur a $10 late fee. Good luck to the Yamba competitors headed to Cudgen on Sunday to compete at the Senior Branch Carnival. There were 18 eager swimmers braved the stormy weather on Sunday for the Carl Schaeffer Handicap Swim. Bobbie Winger, off 40 seconds, had a strong swim to take out 1st place. It was a battle of the back starters for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place, with Peter Rheinberger 2nd, Jorden Elabbasi 3rd and Joe Dougherty 4th, all off 200 seconds. A small but very enthusiastic bunch on Nippers turned up last Sunday morning to have some fun in the rain. Mixed age teams were formed and lots of laughs were had with games such as the balloon challenge, sprints and dress ups. Once the lightning had passed the kids had a ball in the “wave” pool. A great U11’s team headed to Byron Bay for the teams carnival. Congratulations to Kalani Ives, Lily Young, Lewis O’Neill, Malik & Yasmin Elabbasi for their great efforts representing Yamba with 3rd place in the Junior Cameron relay (Lewis O’Neill, Malik Elabbasi, Yasmin Elabbasi, Kalani Ives) and 1st place in the Surf Swim Team (Lily Young, Kalani Ives, Yasmin Elabbasi, Malik Elabbasi).
