End of year goodies for Yamba Lady Bowlers

cvi   Every Yamba lady bowler won prize on Ham and Turkey Day on Tuesday 24th November, thanks to the festive season generosity of the Club Limited. There was a great turn out of 48 members, all hoping for luck in the draw. After bowls, a good number drew hams, others turkeys and the remainder received $10 worth of Bowlo Bucks on their membership card. Everyone went away happy. But preceding this, a box draw for two bowl triples and fours was held, always an interesting format. Given the proliferation of prizes otherwise on offer there were no Lucky Rink draws, but a great morning of bowls was had. Val Terry again figured in the match of the day when she skipped Bev Lawson and Ros Moore to have a real battle with Chris Cole’s team of Faye Reeves, Judy Sinclair and Chris. Scores were even no less than five times, with some terrific bowls played by both teams. It was only on the last two ends that Chris’s team edged ahead and ran out winners 20-17. In other games, G Hoskin/M Sakac/R Fletcher had a close tussle but eventually won over G Freeman/J Pearson/ M Conlan; S Graham/B Mills/K Mason got up over S Doorman/E Moodie/R McPherson; C Deveney/ R Dickson/D Gleeson defeated G Hall/Gloria Davis/J Button; R McKibbin/C Casement/ D Burey downed K Tyler/W Bell/C Atkinson; M Durante/B Shatte/K Pedder won in another close one over M Wall/J Funnell/W Ballantyne; and in the fours game J Stamp/H Scott/P Conley/I Neill finished strongly to defeat C Beard/S Owen/J Pryor/J Scadden. On Thursday 26th, numbers were down a little due to the Em Utting contest between Yamba, Maclean and Iluka being staged at Maclean, and so only one Lucky Rink Prize was awarded. It went to the pairing of Raels McKibbin and Denise Collier in a game which they dominated early leading 12-0 after just 6 ends, over Judy Sinclair and Kerry Pedder. However, to their credit, Judy and Kerry fought back, and the game was very even from there on. The three other games were all very close. C Deveney/K Mason defeated P Conley/C Casement, R Fletcher/D Burey prevailed against M Sakac/J Button, and C Beard/W Bell got up over J Stamp/J Pearson. A report on Yamba’s winning performance in the Em Utting contest will appear in next week’s edition. There is one more final of Club Competitions to be played, and members are urged to come along to the final of the Mixed Fours to be held on Friday 4th December at 10am. It should prove a battle worthy of a final, with Catherine Aitchison, Judy Abbott, Marty Wood and Alan Abbott up against Wendy Ballantyne, Kaye Mason, Allan Parker and Bob Ballantyne. Wendy Ballantyne
