Yamba Men’s Bowls
The first three rounds of the 2015 Consistency Singles Championship were contested last weekend with most participants embracing the challenges of the format and with Mother Nature adding to the testing environment with less than ideal conditions and a zephyr of a breeze that sometimes gusted to between 40 and 50 kph.
Allan Parker’s attempt to defend his title came to a conclusion in the second round when he was defeated by rising star, Martyn Wood, 150 points to 146 after 30 gruelling ends. John Luchetti’s endeavours to maintain his championship winning form survived, having to overcome Greg Dickman in the 2nd Round, necessitating an extra end of play to determine the victor, before being derailed by Steve Kliendienst in the quarter-final 151 to 149 in a keenly contested affair.
The championship will be concluded on Sunday 29th November with the semi-finals encompassing two captivating contests. Steve Kliendienst will have to overcome the reliability and experience of Bob Ballantyne to advance to the afternoon final while Martyn Wood will be up against the wily and intimidating Graham Meany in a pupil versus teacher confrontation not to be missed. Special thanks are extended to all who volunteered to assist with last weekend’s play as markers, umpires and with general assistance.
