Caroona Yamba residents Ian and Pat Myles celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 24. The couple met through football when Ian played 1st grade rugby for the Gordon Rugby Club in Sydney. The couple moved to Yamba with their three sons in 1970 after purchasing the Dolphin Caravan Park [now known as The Blue Dolphin]. “Back then it was like a glorified cow paddock,” said Mr Myles. “We lived in two cabins which were joined together and there weren’t any street lights back then.” The couple retired nine years later and moved to a residence nearby, on Yamba Road, which they recently sold to move into Caroona. Over the years the couple were members of ‘Meals on Wheels’ and both the Golf and Lions Clubs at Yamba. During this time they got to meet a lot of people and enjoyed making friends. The couple said that they enjoyed their voluntary work and felt it was their responsibility to help people. “It was worthwhile [volunteering],” said Mrs Myles. “You give a lot but you get a lot back in return.” The couple said that they have had a happy marriage over the last 65 years and are enjoying their new move to Caroona.
