Women’s Golf Grafton

Congratulations to Sonya Baker who was the winner of this year’s MJO Legal sponsored Winter Consistency competition on 177. Jan Hamilton was r/up on 173 followed by Soo McPherson 168, Noeline Smith 166, Marie Watsford 166, Marianne Mannell 164, Jen Townsend 163 and Marg Manahan 162. Thank you to Peg James who represented the sponsors and presented all the winners with their prizes. Our 6th Monthly Medal last Wednesday saw some great scores posted in the Stroke event with Dot Newton, who is playing some wonderful golf, taking the win in Div 1 with 71. Sue Petty placed 2nd on a c/b from Elaine Shand on 74. Div 2 winner was Mary Atkins on 74 followed by Dale Bax 78 and Beryl Wilks 79. Jan Davis took the Div 3 medal on 71 with Liz Smith 2nd on 72 followed by Julie Bennett on 75 on a c/b for 3rd place. Gross winners were Elaine Shand 88, Mary Atkins 97 and Jan Davis 101. Bev Snowdon showed what a trooper she is following her mammoth 20 hole match play game the previous Monday when she was the O.B.E. winner on Wednesday with 77. Putting winners were Norma Carter 29, Dale Bax 32 and Pam Kenway 31. Norma had some trouble with the computer when she attempted to process her score card. After several unsuccessful swipes of her “membership card”, her playing partners quietly advised her to remove her Medicare card! Perhaps it was the influence of playing with a few nurses? We welcomed visitor Tiffany Baldwin to our competition for the day and, as with her past visits to our course, she thoroughly enjoyed her time with the ladies. It was a big day for Jan Davis on Wednesday. Following Jan’s medal win, Captain Noeline announced that she had also taken out both the Clarence Coast Blinds and the Stephen Donnelly Financial Services Aggregates. Well done Jan. Friday’s Stableford event attracted a field of 27 players and our now regular Howlong visitor, Kaye Murdoch, came in as the winner of Div 1 with a very tidy 34pts. Elaine Shand played some beautiful golf but was unfortunately unable to get her momentum flowing. She finished in 2nd place on 32 on a c/b from Peg James. Div 2 saw a three way c/b for the placings with Jan Hamilton taking the winner’s “cheque” ahead of Julie White and Desiree Whitton all on 35pts. Jan Davis (6th) and Peg James (10th) were the NTP winners. Balls were awarded to a score of 29. Saturday’s summery weather brought out a good number of players (15) for the weekend monthly medal competition. Chrissy Danvers was the hottest on the day to come in as the winner of the event, as well as the medal recipient with a very nice 71 nett. Chrissy also had the least number of putts with 30. Janeen Roberts was pleased with her new set of ladies Callaway clubs when she returned 72 nett to be r/up on the day. The always happy Shirley Goodger was 3rd on 75 on a c/b and the balls went to Noeline Smith, Dell Burke and Janette Blair on 76. Monday saw the finals of our Singles Handicap Match Play Championship. The Div 1 match was played between Dot Newton and Peg James. Div 2 saw Soo McPherson against Shirley Avery and Div 3 was between Liz Smith and Julie White. Results will be available in next week’s paper. Julie White
