At this month’s meeting of the Maclean Lower Clarence Hospital Auxiliary two representatives of workers at the Harwood Sugar Mill, Dean Collins and Dale Atwater, presented the auxiliary with a cheque for $500. The money came from the Safety Award Scheme to which workers make weekly contributions plus bonuses which the company pays for at least thirty days worked without any time lost for injuries. The workers decide which charity to support. This donation will be used to purchase a Saddle Stool for nurses to use when taking blood or inserting catheters, thus avoiding the possibility of back injuries. Nurse Manager, Tara, thanked the auxiliary for the new resus trolleys which have just arrived. One will be used for outpatients’ day surgery and the other will be in level 2 ward. She also reported that the wards are full as the hospital has been very busy. The Northern NSW Local Health District Executive Team visited Maclean recently and they were full of praise for the hospital. An External Safety Audit which is carried out every five years will be done soon. The correspondence included a donation of $2090 from Yamba Bowling Club and also vouchers to use as prizes in the Trivia night to be held on Thursday October 12. The council sent a letter about next year’s McMarkets Day. The next fund raising event is the Fashion Parade featuring good quality pre-loved clothing on Friday September 8 at the community centre in Treelands Drive, Yamba. The starting time is 2pm and the cost is $10 which includes a lucky door prize and a delicious afternoon tea. There is a Movie Day at the Yamba Cinema on Thursday September 14 starting at 10.30am with morning tea, a chocolate wheel and raffles. The film is a premier screening of “Victoria and Abdul” starring the great actress, Dame Judi Dench. Tickets, $15 each, for allocated seating can be purchased from the cinema or by phone on 6646 3430. It was decided to have a food hamper for the Christmas raffle and members are asked to provide items or cash for it. The next meeting will be on Monday September 16 at 2pm in the conference room of Community Health at Maclean District Hospital. New members are welcome. Maggie Combley
