The Yamba Womens Bowling Club’s Championship Triples semi finals were played on Tuesday, August 9. Following up their first round game which required an extra end, Wendy Ballantyne’s team, with Wynne Bell and Kaye Mason, again figured in one that went down to the wire. Playing Joan Scadden, Denise Burey and Chris Cole, Wendy and her team were completely outplayed through 10 ends, when they were down 14-2. Joan lead brilliantly through these ends, and when Wendy’s team did draw the shot, Denise or Chris were spot on with their on-shots and draws to shut them out. But determinedly taking one end at a time, their opponents gradually worked their way back, taking 1 on the 11th and backing it up with two successive 3’s to see the score at 14-9 on 13 ends. All three players in Wendy’s team played their part, with someone ‘being there’ if their team-mates were not, and in doing so, they shut their opposition out to have the score at 14-all on the second last end. The final end saw the score change three times through deft draw bowling, with the final ascendancy with Wynne, Kaye and Wendy running out winners, 16-14. Their opponents in the final will Catherine Aitchison, Judy Abbott and Kerry Pedder. They had a comfortable victory over Val Terry, Dot Gleeson and Monica Conlan. Monica’s team matched them for the first 6 ends, but then Kerry and co played delightful bowls to run out winners to the tune of 30-7. The final will be played on Tuesday, August 23, and should prove well worth watching. Social bowls has also continued, and on 9th the matchup between Judy Pryor’s and Jan Dunning’s teams proved to be the best of the round, with Judy/Beryl Mills and visitor Audrey Cook getting up 19-17 over Jan/Beryl Mills and visitor Jan Jeanes. However, they were not lucky enough to be drawn as winners, and the money went to Sue Lindsay, Pam Conley and a regular visitor, Judy Donnelly. Runners up were Sandy Owen/Margaret Durante/Judy Button, while the consolation prize went to Lily Medhurst and Ros Dickson. On Thursday 11, Dani Turnbull/Ruth Fletcher/Barb Cross defeated Beryl Nielsen/Raels McKibbin/(visitor) Coral Taylor, 16-15. In another close one, Glenda Davis/Margaret Durante/Kaye Mason got up 20-18 over consolation winners Glenda Davis/Jan Jeanes/Kerry Pedder. Lucky rink winners were Gwen Hoskin/(visitor) Cynthia Lydiard/Jenny Scobie while the runners up Bowlo Bucks went to Jan Stamp/(visitor) Michelle Watt/Gloria Davis. Also on 11th, a number of our members participated in the District Presentation Day at Grafton, to play in friendship with members of other clubs and to honour the winners and runners up in all the 2016 District Championships. Yamba club congratulates them all and wishes the Champions the very best in the Regional playoff in Lismore. Wendy Ballantyne
