Congratulations to Lee McKay, Robyn (Wendy) Haselum, Judy Parkes (replacement player) and Kerry Hudson who won the Fours Championship when they defeated Vicki Beddow, Leone Bodycote, Virginia Nicholson and Margaret Stallard 24-11 on Tuesday August 9. The secretary reported that she recently attended a district meeting and the new president is Alma Bowling. There is a sheet on the board for expressions of interest for the position of district vice-president. There is a sheet on the board for the Consistency Singles starting on Thursday September 1 with entries closing next Monday August 22. The Hibiscus Day tournament at Iluka is on Tuesday September 13 and there is a flyer on the board with a list for single entries. The closing date is Tuesday September 6. The Gwen Ford Springtime Triples tournament will be held at Maclean on Tuesday September 20 and there is a sheet on the board for entries which close on Tuesday September 13. Members wishing to play are asked to put the entry fee, $60 per team, in an envelope with name on the outside and give it to the secretary or treasurer beforehand to save time on the day. Other results in the Championship Fours were as follows. In the first round on July 21 L Rae, M Ryan, C Byrum, J Hannah defeated J Cotten, G Parsons, L Sheppard and V Daniels 31-8. Because of rain the semi-finals were postponed to Tuesday August 9 when L McKay, R (W) Haselum,J Parkes (replacement for N Phelps) and K Hudson defeated C Power, J Watkinson, E Triffitt and D Robson 25-19 and M Stallard’s team defeated J Hannah’s team 23-18. The final, for which the result is shown above, was played in the afternoon.
