Sand miners may rescue ‘greenies’

Ed,

There was a good crowd at last Thursdays meeting in Iluka to discuss the proposed Hickey St development of 140 lots.

The ‘greenies’ made a good case for leaving the land as it was but the planning committee thought on balance it should be approved. The only reservation they had was that more testing was needed to find out how radioactive the site is after all the sand mining that went on fifty years ago.

How ironic would it be if the whole development was put on hold because of sub standard readings? In other words the sand miners (traditional enemies of the greenies) may be the silver bullet they are chasing. How bizarre?
