Sally Beresford returns to good form at Grafton

After what seemed like an eternity, the heavens finally opened last Friday night to provide our drought stricken golf course and dams with a much needed drenching. Over 170 millimetres of rain was dumped on our course over the weekend. The early morning Saturday players awoke to the sound of rain and were able to bury their heads in their pillows and remain cosy and dry in their beds for the first rain affected Saturday ladies golf day so far this year. Friday ladies played a Stableford event with 40 keen starters enjoying a great day on the last day of the dry course. Div 1 saw Heather Purtill still flourishing in her purple patch returning 37pts. Noeline Smith came in as the r/up on 36 followed by Mary Atkins on 34. Div 2 winner was Liz Fisher with 35, Lorraine McLaughlan was 2nd on 33 and Desiree Whitton placed 3rd on 32. Lyn Hatton was the winner of Div 3 on 38pts followed by Royer Smith with 34 on a c/b from Marilyn-May Powell. The Good Intent Hotel sponsored NTP winners were Beryl Wilks on the 6th and Julie Bennett on the 17th. Sally Beresford has loudly declared that she is not happy and has called for a Royal Commission to be held. As a result of Sally having not one, but two shots slashed from her handicap in the last few weeks, she feels that this is a most unjust penalty for her great golfing results. Sally has had a return to her good form of her past glory days and has relished being in the winner’s circle, and a recipient of some fabulous prizes, twice during the May Tournament and again last Wednesday. On Wednesday, Sally’s win came when she teamed with another of our talented golden girls and, also a 2016 May Tournament winner, O.B.E. member Bev Snowdon. The two ladies combined fabulously in the 4BBB v Par Classic event to return a score of +10. Runners up on Wednesday were the team of Helen Packwood and Jane Wolfe on a c/b from Narelle Butcher and Sue Petty with +9. Fourth place went to Millie Harris and Marilyn-May Powell on +8. The theme of May Tournament winners was very evident on Wednesday with most of the winners continuing with their great form of the previous week. NTP winners were Heather Robinson (partner Noeline Smith) with a great pin high shot on the Henwood’s Hot Bread sponsored 1st hole. Robyn Wilkes (partner Heather Purtill) had a fantastic shot on the Clarence Valley Tyre Centre sponsored 10th, with her tee shot landing a mere 50cm from the hole. Robyn went on to sink her birdie putt. Thursday June 23 is the date set down for this year’s GIMY Day which will be held at Iluka. An information sheet has been posted on the golf information board in the ladies sitting room. Nominations and entry fees for this always fun day can be made to Treasurer Marilyn.
