Peter Hurst is Maclean C Grade Singles Champion

The semi-finals of the Club Open Triples together with the final of the Club C Grade Singles was played last Thursday evening. The Triples semi-finals winners were the teams skipped by Kerry Wells and Don Plummer. The final will be played this Thursday evening at 4pm. The final of the C Grade Singles between Tom Cross and Peter Hurst was a high class match for any grade. Both players gave their all with some very good draw bowls. Peter was a little too concise in his draw shots for Tom and is to be congratulated as our 2016 Champion. For full results of matches played in both Championships plus matches set down for future play, see the results section at the end of this report. Club Open Pairs have been drawn with first round matches scheduled for this Sunday morning April 3. District Pennants: No matches were played last weekend because of Easter. The next Round is this Saturday (April 2). We will have our No 3’s at home against Yamba. Our 5’s are away against Iluka. The 6’s away against Wooli and the 7’s at home against Brooms Head. A well done goes to Doug Starr’s team of Steve Fuller and Warren McDonald who on Sunday at South Grafton Ex-Services won (for the second year running) the Easter ‘Bendigo Bank’ sponsored Triples tournament. Terry’s Travelling Bowlers ‘The Cane Cutters’ will be having their next trip away to Alstonville Club on Thursday April 14. The bus departs our club at 10am on the day. This Friday (April 1) we will have the (delayed) March round of ‘The Last Friday of the Month’ single entry triples competition.
