Nick Abrahall does it again at the GRC 700 yard shoot

While it was Phil Donoghue and Mark Millard who walked away with the Daily Aggregate Trophies, Phil in Target Rifle and Mark in F-Class, it was Nick Abrahall who once again came up with the shoot of the day. Nick hammered in another 100/100 with fourteen V’s, [right in the middle]. In his last six outings, Nick has fired in ten 50/50’s and two 49/50’s for a meritorious 598/600 with over half in the V-Bull. And with the bit in his teeth he looks set to continue this fine run of marksmanship. This shoot was the third stage of the Treasurer’s Trophy monthly competition, and despite the difficulty that this range poses for contestants, with its very small scoring dimensions, there were nevertheless four “possibles” scored in the Target Rifle division. Apart from Nick Abrahall’s double, Phil Donoghue and Peter Brown also scored one each. In this division, the Grafton ShoppingWorld Butchery’s Off-Rifle Trophy went of course to Nick Abrahall with Peter Brown and Luke Bloomer in second and third places, while the Daily Aggregate went to Phil Donoghue by two and a half points. In F-Class, although there were no 60/60 “possibles” scored, there were three 59/60’s produced, with one each going to John Black, David Grundy and Mark Millard. John Black counted out John Bloomer for the Grafton ShoppingWorld Butchery’s Off-Rifle trophy, while Mark Millard took the Daily Aggregate by a whopping three and a half points. Although the conditions were better than any we have experienced for quite a long time at this range, they were still a bit tricky early on, but eased off as the afternoon progressed. Thus the scores were better in the second stages than the first, and everyone seems to have improved their standings this time around. The shoot next week will be for the fourth and final stage of the Treasurer’s Trophy monthly competition to be fired from the 800 yard mound. The fields in both divisions are tightly bunched at this stage, which should make for a very interesting final run to the post. This competition commences at 1pm. The Range is located at 434 Trenayr Road opposite the Koppers log mill and adjacent to the Experiment Farm. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Anthony O’Keeffe
