Maclean welcomes ‘Vets week of Golf’
Wednesday afternoons Skins game saw a good number of players enjoying this 9 hole event. Geoff Johnson had a hot round carding 24 points and six skins including one 4 pointer and four 3 pointers. Runner-up Richard Ross was also in good form to card 5 skins including four 3 pointers.
Thursdays Single Stableford Medley was played in very cold conditions with plenty of beanies on course. Bruce Wiseman had a solid round to take a win with 39 points from runner-up Phil McGuire on 38. Bruce finished with a birdie on the 17th and a par on the 18th carding 8 points for the last two holes. NTPs went to Ross Allomes on the 2nd, Mark Hemmy the 7th, Geoffrey Johnson the 11th and Graham Edwards the 17th. Pro-balls went down to 31 points on a c/b. Visitors who took the challenge came from Yamba, Woolgoolga, Sussex Inlet, Gerringong, Stonecutters Ridge, Churchill-Monash and Taree.
For next week only the normal Thursday Single Stableford will be played on Wednesday due to the Vets week of Golf on at Maclean and will be sponsored by our Vets. We welcome all the Vets visitors and hope they have a terrific week.
Saturdays event was a Single Medley Stableford kindly sponsored by our diligent Club Secretary Kim Moore/Bowen Therapy. See Kim for relief for those aching bodies. Simon Commerford was in top form with a winning 39 points from runner-up Geoffrey Johnson and third place Jim Luland on 38 points each. NTPs went to Scott McNeilly on the 2nd, Paul Bamback the 7th, Peter Saunders the 11th and Mark Hemmy the 17th. The Thistle Hole once again goes to the consistent Mark Andrews.
The ladies winner of the day was Kaye Grayson with 35 points. She won the ladies prize kindly sponsored by Yamba Fair Butchery. The pro-ball rundown went to 32 points on a c/b.
A group of Grafton golfers had an enjoyable day out, as well as other visitors from Yamba, Beerwah, Kew, Charlestown, Uralla, Port Kembla, Sussex Inlet and Woolgoolga.
Lawrence regular, “Backspin” Bob Richards didn’t make it to golf on Saturday as planned. He got up to let the dog out and the wind shut the door behind him locking him out. He was last seen trying to break into his own house.
Chris Moorehead was behind a tree on the 18th so he took a 7 iron to chip it without following through and hitting the tree. Unfortunately he did swing a bit hard and bent the club, though the ball did finish on the green. Another repair job for our Pro Paul King.
Sundays first round of the Tooheys Shield was played in Grafton. Grafton with 731 has a lead over Maclean with 751 followed by Iluka on 828.
Next Saturdays event is a 4 Ball Aggregate Stableford sponsored by Mark and Kate Hemmy/ Grafton NRMA. A reminder also that our “Christmas in July” is on Saturday July 30. Cost is $45/head and bookings are essential before July 23.
Sunday August 7 the popular Sunday Mixed 4BBB event will be on again. Ring Paul to put your name down. All visitors are very welcome. Cost is $20 and includes lunch. Phil McGuire
