Medical centre proposed for Yamba CBD

A development application (DA) to build a medical centre chemist and four residential units in the Yamba CBD has been lodged with Clarence Valley Council (CVC).

Brisbane-based company, Go Ahead Enterprises Pty Ltd, is proposing to build the two-storey building at 17 Coldstream Street at an estimated cost of $2,002,377.30. Eighteen car parking spaces will be provided on site: six spaces for the residential units – one space per dwelling plus two visitor spaces; 7.26 spaces for the chemist (one per 30m2); and, 4.3 spaces for the medical centre (one per 30m2). The proposal’s economic and social impacts statement states that the development “will make a significant contribution to the town of Yamba through the addition of valuable essential services to the local area.

“The proposed development will also make a positive contribution to the streetscape by upgrading a currently underutilised and unattractive site into a modern contemporary facility,” it states. “The inclusion of shop-top housing is in keeping with the council’s intentions for increased residential use on upper levels of the buildings in the town centre and will provide for an increased level of activity to the town centre at all hours of the day and night. “This has the added benefit of increased security through natural surveillance of areas that may otherwise be quiet areas at night.”

Hours of operation for the medical centre, if approved as lodged, will be 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and 10am to 2pm on Sundays. The chemist hours will be 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and 10am to 2pm on Sundays.

The DA is on exhibition on CVC’s website on the DAs advertised page – submissions can be lodged up until the close of business on Friday 16.
