Mathew Bloomer makes it a double – double at 500 yards

Mathew Bloomer looked very much the part as he calmly rolled in a double possible [50/50] to card the perfect 100/100 on Saturday at the 500 yard shoot. To add to his day, this score gave him both the Off-Rifle Honours and the Daily Aggregate in the Target Rifle division of this, the third and final round of what has been a very enjoyable Grebert Shield competition. In the T/R Optical Class, Peter Nielsen fell just one point short of the elusive 100/100 to once again take home the trophy in this division, and when considered with his consistent record of three top shoots over the three weeks of competition, was more than enough to give him the Grebert Shield for 2016. In F-Class, John Black showed once again why he is the man to beat when it comes to this division. He opened with the perfect 60/60 in his first stage and followed it up with another solid effort in the second, to take Off-Rifle honours and the Grebert Shield in this division. Sue Bloomer started solidly in her first stage and stormed home with an even better one in the second, to snare second place, with Kade Hilton and Tony O’Keeffe sharing third spot. However Kade went on to take the Daily Aggregate from O’Keeffe and Black in that order. John Robertson fell a little behind the field with a less than ideal first stage but came home strongly to maintain his second spot in the Grebert Shield, with Sue Bloomer holding on to third. In Target Rifle, the competition was shaping up to be a fight to the finish between Nick Abrahall and Dennis Hilton, but the 100/100 finish by Mathew Bloomer made it a three way struggle in which Bloomer squeezed into second place with Hilton having to settle for third. Number one spot went to Nick Abrahall by one point, but with a magnificent thirty four central V’s. This is an effort that is right up there with the best in the land. Next week the Club Championship kicks off at 300 yards for the first stage of the Summer Cup, commencing at 1pm. The range is located at 434 Trenayr Road, opposite the Koppers log mill and adjacent to the Experiment Farm. Visitors and new shooters are always welcome. Anthony O’Keeffe
