Huge field for Yamba midweek golf

A great field of 187 golfers competed in the midweek Stableford event at Yamba Golf Club in magnificent conditions. Visitors from 25 golf clubs swelled the field and the course generally was the winner. In A Grade Scott O’Hanlon (Beverley Park) 40 was victorious over David Miles (39) and Alex Podbereski (38). AR Grade saw a win to David Cruden with 38 points on a c/b from Chris Bonner and Col Cromack. In B Grade John Maguire equalled the best score of the day to win with 40 points from Anthony Pidcock (Grafton) (37) on a c/b from Larry Mackenzie. David Carothers was the winner in C Grade with the equal best round of 40 points from Jack Esau (39) and Don O’Brien (38). NTP’s were sponsored by SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist and Yamba Barber Shop. On the 3rd Alex Podbereski won with 130cm, 9th Geoff Flett 224cm, 10th Scott O’Hanlon 137cm, 12th Al Bourke 149cm and 17th Danny Quin 127cm. To win a ball it was necessary to score 34 points with 17 on the back nine. Monthly medals played in a gale On Saturday it was Monthly Medal day at Yamba Golf & Country Club and a good field of 148 players competed in very difficult conditions. The wind has turned around by 180 degrees and a southerly was not easy to cope with. In A Grade Greg Starr played a great round to win the medal with nett 69 from Andrew Kelly (70) and Mackenzie Wright (72). Mackenzie also won the gross trophy with a fine 77. Ross Allomes returned to winner’s podium in AR Grade to take the medal with 69 nett. Close behind were Albert Fox (71) and Russell Cain (73). Albert won the gross with 86 on a c/b. In B Grade John Stuckey was successful on a c/b from John Atherton and John Maguire when all scored 69 nett. John Atherton took the Gross trophy with 89 on a c/b. C Grade was a welcome return to form by Brian Smith when he won the medal with nett 70 and the Gross with 98. In second place was Don O’Brien (71) followed by Lary Dorman (72). NTP winners were 3rd Don Maling 299cm, 9th Alan Syle 182cm, 10th Ron Jeffrey 136cm, 12th Daniel Jamieson (Gatton Jubilee) 200cm, 17th Nick Sahlquist (RACV Cape Schanck) 302cm and 2nd shot to 17 Terry Bull 450cm. Ball winners needed 75 with 39 nett on the back nine. A highlight of the day was the magnificent 17 shots recorded on the 7th hole by Chris Durrington Who Took Out The Special Schooners Donated By Coastal Pest Solutions. John Smail wins Sunday Medley A small field contested the medley Stableford event on Sunday and John Smail took the winner’s voucher with 38 points from Darrie Nightingale (36) and Barry Latham (35). NTP’s were won by Bruce Lulham, Kathie and John Smail, Lee Daley, Barry Latham and Lina Holden. The ball rundown went to 32 points on c/b. There will be a Fourball Medley Stableford next Sunday and the timesheet is on the computer. David Miles
