Maclean New Year mid week to Paul Moore

After some years in the wilderness former low marker and club captain Paul Moore finally found what side of the ball to stand on when putting and made the winners list during the Christmas period to double his usual score and record 43 Stableford points, to take out the New Year mid week event from the very unlucky Jeff Miller, who has had demons of his own of late. The first monthly medal of the new year saw Gregor Simpson trade 6 months of the Shanks for an A Grade monthly medal with nett 67 to hold of John Phillips by 1 shot (who may have had 1 up his sleeve if only he had known)? The B Grade medal & mug for the second month in a row went to the very consistent Greg Dickinson whos nett 66 was the best of the day and beat the best ladies score of Cath Parker by a couple. Thursday’s Stableford saw Alan Cope get the money with 41 points from Terry Lawes on 40 points. Club balls went to 34 on a c/b. Saturdays event was The Jim Kelly cup and was once again sponsored by Matt Dougherty. A team of Grafton visitors accompanied Matt for the day and as is usually the case were left lamenting in the wake of the locals. Simon Commerford and John FongKee took the major end of the prize with 47 Stableford points on a c/b from Ron Hubbard and Craig Slater with the same score. The second runners up were Jeff Miller and Mike McGowan. Nearest the pins went to Walgett visitor Anthony Brigden on 2 & 17, Rod Smith on 7, Greg Dickinson on 11 and the second shot on the 9th hole went to Grafton scratch marker Greg Harvison, who with wedge in hand from 100 out managed to hit it to 10.5 meters? However 2 putts apparently saved him a couple of rounds of drinks. Next Saturday will be a single Stableford event sponsored by the club. Don’t forget the Friday night raffles and dinner at Thistles Bistro. Geoff Grayson
