Yamba Nippers will resume this Sunday, 17th January, at 9.30am at Main Beach, coinciding with the Yamba Rotary Family Fun Day. The Branch Carnival this Sunday has been moved to Cudgen, good luck to the team of Yamba Nippers competing. There was an enormous field of 75 competitors for the Carl Schaeffer Handicap Surf Swim on Sunday, making it hard work for the handicapper! The winner Charlie Crawford, off 90 seconds, he won comfortably from old Grafton boy and annual visitor Peter Scotton, off 80 seconds, and Martin Dougherty, off 210 seconds 3rd. The December Monthly Mug winner is Lindsay Wall with 17 points, with Jake Beaumont and Charlie Bindon tied for 2nd on 14 points and then Chris Dougherty with 12. The overall pointscore for the season is a close competition with Jess Humphries and Matt Eke tied for 1st place with 46 points and Joe Dougherty close behind on 41 points. This popular surf swim is held every Sunday and public holiday, with registrations at 11am, and the race starting at 11.30am. Yamba SLSC meat raffles are on every Saturday evening at the Yamba Golf and Country Club. This Saturday Ray O’Brien, Pat Ridgway and Steve Pettet will be selling tickets from 5.30pm with the draw starting at 6.30pm. With 33 fantastic meat trays to be won, go along and try your luck!
