Women’s Golf Grafton

We have had good numbers of players availing themselves of our competitions which continue to run, despite the traditional holiday season which usually sees a sizeable proportion of our lady members’ take a break from their golf. Our very popular Bendigo Bank sponsored Summer Consistency competition is once again attracting a good number of keen players to these fields on both Wednesdays and Saturdays with some great scores being recorded. As is always the case at our Club, we invite any visiting ladies (and or men) who may be in our area and would like a game of golf to phone our Pro Shop on 6642 5413, to arrange a suitable time as you would be made more than welcome for a social and or competition game. Following the much needed 40millimetres of rain which fell on our course last Tuesday, a good number of 20 eager ladies participated in the Stableford event on Wednesday. With the weather conditions quite steamy, together with perhaps the effects of too much Christmas/New Year celebrating, only a few players managed to conquer the course. Playing off a handicap of 20, Kelly Titman produced the best round to come in with a fabulous 39pts to be awarded 1st place. Carol Toms continued with her good form for the week with a round of 36pts to be the r/up. Millie Harris was 3rd on 34 ahead of Jen Townsend (33), Elaine Shand (29), Mary Atkins (29) and Sonya Baker (28) who each received a ball. Sonya and Jen both had accurate rounds to be the recipients of the NTPs. Despite travelling almost all the way to golf only to discover that she had left her golf shoes at home, and having to backtrack to retrieve them, Darryl’s wife played some awesome shots, especially with a remarkable number of huge drives being fired out of sight straight down the middle of the fairway, which resulted in her recording several nice pars, including the 14th. Saturday’s Stableford event was played in mild summer weather. The 12 ladies had an enjoyable morning; however, the course was once again the winner. Heather Robinson came in 1st placed with 33 pts and Janet Croft was r/up on 30. Lorraine McLaughlan took the NTP on the 6th with Mary Atkins (29) and Janeen Roberts (28) the ball winners. A reminder to any lady who may wish to sponsor an event in our 2016 programme, could they please place their name on the list in the ladies sitting room or alternatively, speak to President Heather as our sponsorship Co coordinator Peg and Captain Noeline are both still on leave.
