Maclean Mens Golf

Another big week of golf at Maclean with the course in excellent condition. Wednesdays Skins saw a win for Barry Connelly with four skins on a C/B from Paul O’Halloran. Thursdays Single Stableford, played off the back markers proved to be challenging with scores down on last week. Barry Connelly backed up again to take the trophy with 38 points on a c/b from r/up Stephen Smith, who is also playing well at the moment. Phil McGuire and Gregor Simpson were the only other players to beat their handicaps with 37 points each. NTPs went to Rod Smith on the 2nd, Noel Butcher on the 7th, Geoffrey Dickinson took the 11th for the third week in a row and Leigh Barrington took the 17th. Pro-balls ran down to 34 points on a c/b. Visitors came from Teven, Yamba and Catalina. Saturday saw the 3rd Round of the Club Championships sponsored by Bob Harvey. Excellent conditions with tricky pins saw only five players beat their handicaps. Captain Geoff Grayson (6), who sets the pin placements came in a winner with a nett 70 beating Stephen Smith (11), with a nett 70 as well, on a c/b. NTPs went to Craig Slater on the 2nd, Geoffrey Dickinson the 7th, Michael McGowan the 11th and Greg Doolan the 17th. Pro balls ran down to 75 on a c/b. Gregor Simpson won the thistle hole on the par 4, 9th hole with a spectacular eagle, his second in a week. After driving well past the drain he chipped in for two. The final round of Championships is on next Saturday and is sponsored by Espresso Botero. The top four in each grade are as follows: A Grade – Paul Bamback 239, Rod Smith 246, Stephen Smith 251 and Geoff Grayson 254. B Grade – John Phillips 256, Gregory Dickinson 259, Greg Doolan 269 and Phil McGuire 269. C Grade – Dave Smith 273, Darrell Simmons 283, William McCurtayne 285 and Robert Richards 290. D Grade – Chris Moorhead 314, Denis Runge 316, Phil Robinson 323 and Glen Crooks 326. The A Grade top four tee off at 10am followed by the B Grade, C Grade and D Grade top four. Good luck to all in this final round. Next Sunday May 29 sees the return of the popular 4BBB Sunday Mix.
