The Clarence River District State Singles were played over seven days at Maclean WBC with 33 players setting their sights on a State Title. The semi finals and final were played on the morning of Tuesday May 17 with excellent bowling from the four finalists. The first semi final was a hard fought match between Yamba’s Wendy Ballantyne and Maclean’s Wendy Haselum with the bowls going one for one and finally going to Wendy Ballantyne. In the second semi final South Grafton’s Candy Nixon gaining an early lead of 9/0 against Yamba’s Helen Atkinson who fought back with consistent bowling to reach 23/18 but was unable to bridge the gap heralding an afternoon final between Wendy and Candy. Both girls started well with the lead see sawing to 7/7 on the eighth end when Candy stepped up a notch and with some brilliant bowling sealed the match 25/10. Candy will now play in the Regional play offs to be held in the Northern Rivers on the 22nd to 25th August at a venue to be advised. Shirley Woodward
