Maclean Mens Golf

Wednesdays 9 hole skins event hits off each week at 1.30. Simon Commerford continued on a winning streak by taking out last weeks event with 6 skins. Highlights of the day included two eagles, both on the par 4, 5th hole. Steve Smith put his 2nd into the hole from the fairway bunker and Doug Hudson from just behind the bunker put his in the hole as well. Fantastic shots from around 150 metres. Thursdays Single Stableford was won by Gary Klingberg with a top score of 42 points. Peter Dowling was the r/up with a fine round of 40 points. Nearest the pins went to Craig Slater on the 2nd, Gregory Dickinson again on the 7th, Alan Cope on the 11th and Mark Andrew the 17th. Pro balls went down to 36 points. Saturdays Single Stableford sponsored by “The Links Play and Stay” attracted a large field but none were better than Andrew Clarke who was in excellent form to take the day with a massive 45 points. Wayne Ensby from Ballina was r/up with 40 points. The trophy for third place went to Yamba visitor Warren Thoms with 39 points. Nearest the pins were won by Tony Johnson on the 2nd, Andrew Clarke the 7th, Peter Fitzpatrick the 11th and Palmer Gold Coast visitor Leanne Jeffriess the 17th. Pro balls went down to 35 points. Visitors who played this Easter event came from Ballina, Yamba, Gold Coast, Karana Downs, Coolangatta, Palmer Colonial, Woolgoolga, Woodburn-Evans Head, Walgett and The Grand. Greg Doolan chipped in for a nice birdie on the 9th under pressure from the peanut gallery on the verandah. Next Saturday is a Stroke event for the Monthly Medal sponsored by Walters Butchery of Maclean. Thanks Speed and wishing you well after your recent illness.
