Lawrence Fishing Club – Shorty Memorial Shield

The Lawrence Fishing Club held their monthly outing which was also our yearly Shorty Memorial competition for estuary on April 30 and May 1. A total of 18 members fished estuary this month and one member fished deep sea. The estuary winners were: Ladies – Tracey Humble weighing in three flathead. Men’s – Toby Gray weighing in nine bream, 10 flathead and two mullet with a total of 7.84kg. Annabelle Curry was the junior girl winner weighing in three bream. Secret weight was won by Harrison McLennan. Toby Gray was the overall estuary winner and won the Shorty Memorial Day outing. Member’s draw was won by Bob Graham but wasn’t present at the outing to collect his winnings. Brett O’Connor was the winner for deep sea weighing in a total of 29.7kg. His catch included Spanish spotted mackerel, parrot fish, snapper and king fish. Plus Brett also fished estuary and caught some flathead. Congratulations to all our winners. Toby is very happy that finally his name is on the Shorty Memorial Shield and Brett is well in the lead for deep sea, well done to you both. A special thank you to Anne Marie Short, Doug Short, Angie & Ringo, Mabel & Scarlett for attending on behalf of the Short family and your generous donation to the club. Also to John and Sally Hoy for providing the Muscat to drink a toast in memory of Shorty. The weekly raffle was also a big success which was won by Sarah Reid. Many thanks to all the members and patrons of The Lawrence Tavern that supported the raffle. Our next outing is to be held on June 4-5. Lyn Morgan
