Evans Head too strong in the end

Another large crowd witnessed a hard fought third round Rugby match between the Yamba Buccaneers and Evans Head Killer Whales on the weekend. The first twenty minutes was very even with each side having opportunities to score. Then two defensive lapses by Yamba saw them down 10 nil. Yamba gradually worked their way up field and Brody Rhineberger plunged over beneath a pile of bodies to put Yamba back in the game with a 13-5 half time score. Yamba scored straight after half time with their new Canadian import going through a couple of tackles and scoring under the black dot. The Buccaneers were looking good at 13-12 down and put in an extra effort with Tom Mulligan up front and Fairweather at full back leading the way. However Evans Head steadied and moved the ball wide to their speedy winger to overhaul the tiring Yamba side and ran out final winners 32 points to 12. Bob Thompson
