Iluka Vets Open falls victim to afternoon storm

Tuesday February 23

What a day of two seasons Tuesday was, the morning fine but boy did the heavens open for the afternoon field. Thor must have been cranky.

The course was in fine form thanks to our team of workers. We had our course on showcase to the Northern Rivers Vets and came out on tops with very complimentary comments. Well done Doug and the team of volunteers.

Our ladies put up a magnificent luncheon for all and the raffle ladies “sold tea to a chinaman”  for a great return. Our thanks to these great members of our club.

Our thanks to Captain Jim and his offsider Paul Mitchell, they did a great job under very difficult circumstances.

Morning results

Winner Kerry Wilson (Iluka) won 39 points with a hole in one 6/15 to add to his cap. Runners up Stuart McDonald (Lismore), Malcolm Weight (Lismore), John Carlton (Maclean) and John McLean (Iluka).

NTP’s: 1/10 Malcolm Weight, 6/15 Kerry Wilson and 6/17 Rod Ellis.

Afternoon results

Winner Barry Beyer (Iluka) won on 35 points. Runner ups Royce Kilroy (Mullumbimby), Gary Ablett (Lismore), Jeoff Turner (Iluka) and Barry Brims (Iluka).

NTP’s: 1/10 Kevin Walker, 6/15 Steve Craven and 8/17 Paul Giles.

The afternoon was called off early when lighting and fierce rain lashed the course. The comp was determined by a count of all scores recorded.

This decision was supported by the NRVGA who were present.

Once again thanks to all who worked hard on the day.
