Iluka and Woombah residents say “thank you” to our volunteer firefighters

Last Sunday (December 15), the Iluka Golf Club, in conjunction with the Iluka Woombah Rotary Club, hosted a very special event to say a mighty “thank you” to all of our magnificent volunteer firefighters for the massive work they did to save our communities from the recent fires.

Folk turned out in force and were entertained by fantastic local musicians who donated their time and talent, donation buckets were very generously sought out and raffle tickets sold like hot cakes. Rotary members manned the BBQ to cook up the several hundred sausages, with bread, onions and salad (all of which Rotary donated) to feed the hungry masses. The Golf Club is also donating a very significant amount from bar sales on the day. All monies raised are going to purchase much needed new equipment for our Woombah and Iluka fire brigades.

The day was a smashing success and the Iluka and Woombah Rotarians are still counting the donation buckets and raffle proceeds, but looking at the day and the attendance it will be a significant amount. Well done to all the volunteers, many thanks.

A lot has been said about our wonderful firefighters, and this little statistic must be put out there again ….. amid all the devastation caused by the bushfires, the Iluka and Woombah firefighting units had a perfect record …. NOT ONE HOUSE WAS LOST…. INCREDIBLE!

We even had a couple of welcome guests who turned up on their own accord, Federal Parliament Member Kevin Hogan and Chris Gulaptis, local NSW State Member. Both said some nice words of support of the firefighters and the fact that we all hold these special people in such high regard.

On behalf of Iluka and Woombah Rotary Club and the Iluka Golf Club we say “thank you” to all of our residents who turned out for this very special afternoon. Well done Iluka and Woombah.
