Husband and wife team ‘Strike It Lucky’

Doug Luckie is the dream husband. His wife Loraine has been battling with her health for some time and was under doctor’s orders to “get out and enjoy life.” Doug’s birthday gift to Loraine was to take her to the World Masters Golf Championship in Thailand played from 14th to 20th June. The Championship was played on four courses over five days in Hua-Hin which is a seaside resort in the Gulf of Thailand and home to Royal Palaces. Loving the Yamba beaches as they do, this really suited the couple. Both Doug & Loraine entered in the 66+ years age section with Doug in A Grade & Loraine playing B Grade. Both were in awe of the beautiful condition of the courses they played at Black Mountain, Lake View, Banyan & Majestic Creek. Black Mountain offered beautifully manicured fairways & was surrounded by scenic mountainous country. Whilst many fairways looked quite intimidating with bunkers, waterways & rocky outcrops they were all very stunning. The other courses, also meticulously prepared, were flatter & varied with incredibly undulating greens. Loraine found it amusing that the gardens on the courses in Thailand consisted of pineapples from which they could have a free drop. Doug was amused to find the shotgun start was a fireworks mortar, complete with stars & sparkles. No mistaking hit off time! There was no trouble for this lucky pair. Over the four days Loraine had two wins & a second placing. She was declared winner of her division for the Championship. Doug was third in his division. Both were awarded lovely crystal trophies & Loraine is quite chuffed that her trophy is bigger. The organisers commented that it is most unusual to see a husband & wife both winning trophies. After golf each day players gathered for fellowship & to share a story or two over snacks & endless drinks.
