Gulmarrad celebrates Book Week

cvreview-imagesc   It was all hands on deck for Captain Cook and his crew as Gulmarrad Public School sailed into their annual Book Week Parade on Wednesday, August 22. With a focus on the Children’s Book Council theme “Australia. Story. Country”, the Captain was joined by a range of Australian characters including Crocodile Dundee, Ned Kelly, native animals, convicts, Olympic champions and those loveable gumnut babies, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Book Week is officially celebrated from 20 to 26 August. It is Australia’s longest running children’s festival and has been a staple on the school calendar since 1997. Librarian, Danielle Connolly, was thrilled by the success of this year’s festivities, which involved activities that highlighted the importance of reading for children, a book fair, art and guessing competitions and of course the dress-up day.
