Grafton Women’s Golf

A reminder to any lady golfers who have not yet entered their name in our upcoming May Tournament, could you please pay your entry fee to Mary Katte as soon as possible as entries are scheduled to close today, May 11. With strong numbers on par with last year’s tournament already entered, for each of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, our tournament is once again showing all the signs of a fantastic event. If any members did not receive a book of raffle tickets for our May Tournament major raffle of a Webber BBQ, which has been very kindly donated as our major fundraiser for the Tournament, and they would like one (or more) could they please see Liz Fisher. Tickets at $1 each are also available for purchase in the clubhouse where the BBQ is also on display. Despite numbers (53) being somewhat down compared to recent weeks, there was still plenty of great golf played last Wednesday for our 4th monthly medal. The star player for the day and the winner of our sponsor’s (Allure Derma Cosmetic Skin Clinic) generously donated great prize, was Heather Purtill with a score of 68 nett, which equated to 83 hits. Heather also received the Div 1 medal. The winner of Div 2 and medal winner (for the second month in a row) was Robyn Wilkes with 76 nett on a c/b from Janet Croft, 3rd went to Dell Burke on 77. Gross winner was Janet Croft on 98 and she was also the putting winner with 29. Div 3 saw Helen Irving take the win and medal with 75 on a c/b from Marg Manahan. Marg Rickwood came in 3rd on 76 c/b. Marg Manahan was the gross winner with 104. Liz Smith was the champion putter with 32. Div 1 winner was Jane Wolfe on 72, Peg James 2nd on 76 and Noeline Smith was 3rd on 77. Jane was also the best putter in the club on 26. Our O.B.E. winner was Marie Watsford on 77. Thursday and Friday of last week saw 9 of our ladies’ head up to Ballina to participate in the 2-Day Tournament. Noeline, Marianne, Heather P, Millie, Mary A, Anna, Julie W, Kathy M and Robyn W, all thoroughly enjoyed their time at the tournament. Friday at home was a Stableford competition which accommodated 33 starters. Dale Bax came in as the winner in Div 1 on 32pts, followed by Lorraine McLaughlan with 30 c/b from Sharyn O’Grady. Div 2 winner was Sally Beresford with a great score of 35pts. Julie Bennett received 2nd prize with 33 c/b from Royer Smith. Saturday ladies also played a Stableford with a field of 13. Shirley Goodger was the winner following a three-way count back on 37pts. Carol Toms was the winner of the NTP on the 1st and balls went to Janette Blair, Peg James and Carol. Entertainment for the morning was provided courtesy of Narelle’s golf. Her playing partners, Jean, Janeen and Elaine, had plenty of laughs when Narelle played not one of her most consistent rounds. However, not all was lost as she made one claim to fame for the morning with a lovely birdie for a 4 pointer on the 6th hole. Next Saturday and Sunday sees Rounds 1 and 2 of the weekend championships held with the final round to be conducted on the following Saturday. Julie White
