Grafton Floral Art Society Inc

Owing to president, Lyn, being called out on SES business, vice president, Doreen chaired the meeting of the Grafton Floral Art Society and welcomed members present. Unfortunately, two apologies were received and accepted.

Further copies of “Our Garden” were, presented for distribution and no other correspondence was tabled.

Visitor Leonie Roberts was welcomed, and much discussion followed regarding the “Festival of Flowers” to be held Jacaranda Week and 2020 Grafton Show schedule.

The demonstrator for the meeting was vice president Beth, who excelled herself describing designs and floral art rules, as she arranged five designs.

Firstly, in a tall, decorative container she demonstrated an ‘A’ line design using stems and flowers of magnolia. Next followed an unusual circular shaped basket and placed red camellias in it, giving the impression of a basket full of flowers. In a black circular bowl, a frontal symmetrical design featured pale pink and lavender coloured chrysanthemums and lastly placed small maroon alstroemeria as an outline of the design. A small skeletonised piece of weathered wood was used as a container and five red proteas placed in a free style. Her final demonstration was in a white urn shaped vase, and was a formal symmetrical arrangement; the outline was tall sword fern, then added pink, violet coloured chrysanthemums and lastly added bright pink pentas resulting in a very artistic floral art display.

An observance of natural growth and little practice, the floral artist can create an attractive display.

A reminder to members that the next meeting on September 12 will be a hands-on exercise; just bring along any flowers or foliage you may have in your garden and a container or vase.
