Golfers take the spoils at Iluka Golfers v Bowlers Day

The annual Iluka Golfer’s versus Bowlers Day was held on Sunday July 14 and was supported by 80 plus participants. A really positive change this year was making it a mixed event which increased the interest and numbers involved.

The format was bowls in the morning, followed by a BBQ lunch and golf in the afternoon. Teams of four were given an appropriate handicap which proved to be a challenge, especially when there are some pretty talented players of both sports involved. Winner of the coveted trophy were the golfers but only by a tight margin. But winning the trophy is not only what the day is about – it’s about two Clubs coming together for a fun day, showing their support for the community, building positive relationships, promoting their sports and most importantly raising funds for a worthy cause.

All funds raised on the day have been donated to Marine Rescue Iluka Yamba which was a whopping $2000. Both Clubs donated their green fees for the day and the Iluka Golf Club kindly donated the use of their golf carts including private cart owners which was really appreciated.  Thanks to Barry Robbie & Gordon Farrell for donating raffle prizes which raised a substantial amount. Thanks must go out to the sponsors of the day: Iluka Hardware, Iluka Hot Bread, Jenny & Graham Lynn and the Clarence Head Caravan Park. Also thanks to the organisers Gordon Farrell, Col Curnow & Damo and helpers on the BBQ and the Courtesy Bus Drivers.
