On Saturday July 20 Maclean Bowling Club hosted the inaugural Ray Miller Memorial Men’s Triples Tournament.
Players came from Wollongong, Corrimal, Victoria, Lismore, Casino, Yamba, Iluka, Grafton, Brooms Head & Central Coast to play and honour a true gentleman of the sport
Ray had won many accolades in his time playing including 12 x No.1 Pennant flags and a state pairs championship.
So when we attracted a full field of 78 players, and the sun came out shining the day was set to be a ripper.
Overall it was mates catching up with each other that knew Ray and competing in the game he loved.
There were only three teams who went through undefeated showing a great competitive tournament throughout.
The results of the day were:
1st – 3 wins + 48 Rusty Leeson, Alby Gibbs & Ralph Fair (Iluka/Wodonga).
2nd – 3 wins + 33 Jack Olley, Terry Knudson & D. Ball (East Lismore).
3rd – 3 wins + 17 John Hupfield, Peter Hurst & Gary Scott (Maclean).
4th – 2.5 wins + 19 Steve Jackson, Des Johnson & Ian Parker (Yamba/Maclean).
Round 1 winner – Tom Cumming, Josh Miller & Ron Miller (Yamba/Corrimal).
Round 2 winner – Trevor Terry, Ron Schafer & Garry Montgomery (Yamba/Maclean).
Round 3 winner – John Nash, John Connell & Paul Burnes (Maclean).
Leonie (Rays’ wife) was truly amazed at the response to the tournament and only wanted all in attendance to have a great day and a laugh. Leonie and the family were lost for words at the presentation but extremely thankful to all that attended the day and look forward to seeing you all back again next year.
