Coutts Crossing croquet

The club GC Championship is not far away and Gillian Martin signalled her intentions with three huge victories, 7-2, 7-1, 7-1.

Ann and Tony Willams were back after a long holiday trip and Pat MacLennan showed good form again. Ken Davison celebrated his birthday with a delicious cake, but with mixed success on the lawns.

Tuesday last week saw Marilyn Richmond return and was involved in two golden hoop games. She lost 10-9 and then beat Peter Martin 11-10.

On Wednesday Gillian Martin and the two Peters enjoyed a three handed game, with intense play despite the heat and all three were in excellent form.

As the week wore on, sun replaced rain and play improved. There was a very good coaching session Friday with Marilyn Richmond playing well. We welcomed back Lynne Moulds after a long period in NZ.

Saturday saw Rita and Barry Johnson back after a long break and Barry immediately getting a hoop to hoop. Keith Brodie and Ken Davison executed fine jump shots. There were 17 matches played in torrid heat and 199 hoops run.

On Sunday Gilian Martin played her best ever AC to lead Peter by 14-0, but Peter fought back to finish with a ten hoop break and lose only by 22-21.

The club “Welcome to 2022” on January 24 will be a BQ Breakfast, not lunch, due to the heat. Eat from 9am, presentations from 10, play before and after.
