Community comes together to help ‘Jacaranda Jill’

‘Jacaranda Jill’, the giant kewpie doll that has been a highlight for many visiting Market Square during this years Jacaranda Festival was the target of vandalism on Friday night.

Drivers from Grafton Taxis spotted the fire in-between jobs just after 10pm and alerted emergency services.

Many onlookers were shocked, fortunately however, only the dolls original skirt was damaged and not the main headpiece.

There has been an outpouring of support since the vandal attack with many locals offering assistance to fix Jacaranda Jill.

Grafton’s Spotlight store has also offered to donate the material to make a purple skirt for the kewpie doll next year. The good news is that with the support of the community Jacaranda Jill will be back next year.
