Burton holes out in Yamba

One hundred and forty four players contested this week’s Stableford competition and out of the 144 players Dennis Burton had the shot of the day when he holed- out on the 12th giving him 10 balls plus a trophy plus wine plus a hair cut plus bragging rights forever. Barry Fisher returned the score of the day, 43 points (1 over off the stick) which in turn handed him the A Grade 1st prize, 2nd went to Sid Erskine 41 points and 3rd was Chris Holst with 40. A Reserve saw Max Sweetman take the win with 42 points, Max also eagled the 18th giving him 10 balls, 2nd was Nick Anderson with 40 on a c/b from Greg LaForest 40. B Grade winner was soon to be retired Peter Julian with 39 points on a c/b from Bryan Groth 39 and Bruce Petith came 3rd with 39 also. C Grade winner was another Sweetman, this time Peter took the win with 37 points from Ken Lillie 35 on a c/b from Evan Harris 35. NTPs were Ian Brockwell on the 3rd SeaFire Steak and Seafood hole 150cm, the 9th Peter Campbell Physio hole went to Stewart Golfsmith 246cm, the 10th SeaFire Hole was Neil Drummond 17cm, the 12th Yamba Barber Shop hole was of course Dennis Burton, the 17th SeaFire hole went to Barry Fisher 67cm. To win a ball you needed 35 with 16 on the back. Saturday golf Only 81 players braved the conditions on Saturday with wind and rain cutting the field in half, this in turn resulted in only 3 grades being held. The winner of A Grade was Andrew Wilson with 39 points on a c/b from Greg LaForest 39; Tim Stokes was third with 37. B Grade winner was Big John Maguire with the score of the day 42 points from Speed Jones 41 and 3rd went to Jan Dampney 38. C Grade winner was Noel Collie with 38 points from Gabba Bodycote 35 and 3rd was Peter White 34 on a c/b. NTPs went to Barry Fisher on the John Wright Pro shop 3rd 277cm, The Peter Campbell Physio 9th was Max Sweetman 265cm, the SeaFire Steak and Seafood 10th was Al Burke 261cm, the SeaFire 12th was Laurie Arnott 131cm, the Bean Scene 17th went to David Bruton 320cm and the 2nd shot SeaFire 17th was Peter White 927cm. To win a ball you needed 33 with 15 on the back 9. Mixed Foursome Championship Fifty two players contested this year’s 27 hole mixed foursomes or mixed gruesomes as some call it. The gross winners returning a great score of 131 on a count back went to captain Glenn Scarffe and Carolyn Chester from captain Margaret Solomon and Ron Jeffrey 131. The net winners were David Bruton and Kim Lipscombe with 108 net from Alison Caller (Bright) and Clayton Hope 111-3/4 .
